eco-tecture + design + build
The Keating residence is an eco-remodel of a 1950’s cabin into a year round home in the hills of Northern California. Craftsman style detailing was integrated into the theme of this solar designed hillside home that reclaimed the old dilapidated home and revitalized its spirit.

A central tower addition opened up the confined cabin to bring in natural light, ventilation and also provided enhanced views of the distant mountains. A bell-shaped entry addition expanded the old layout and now promotes a sense of larger and more interactive living space.

Eco-efficiency was reached with a comprehensive approach using healthy building materials and highly insulative new components. The use of terraced stone gabions and natural stone embankments aided the restoration and regeneration of a seasonal creek that runs adjacent to the house.
