eco-tecture + design + build

Living Roofs

imageLiving Buildings

Living buildings are an evolutionary step in the green design movement and play an important role. A living building emulates or mimics natural systems and thereby participates in the cycling of natural elements, i.e., water, minerals, and energy. Vegetative systems integrated into buildings act and function in-cooperation with the larger natural systems of the planet. Buildings can be conceived as ecosystems, supporting and sheltering plants, birds, invertebrates and microorganism alike.

In our mission to develop integrated building systems that are eco-efficient, we have combined rainwater harvesting to decrease or entirely eliminate the need for potable water when irrigating. In addition, solar power arrays can also be integrated with living roofs providing the energy to circulate water between storage and the rooftop garden. Furthermore, green roofs maintain cooler rooftop temps in the summer thereby maintaining the solar panels at their optimal operating temperature and increasing electrical production.
